Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.

Duration

The total duration is 1 day. Training and assessment are conducted.

Training Overview

  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR.
  • Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • Fainting and unconsciousness
  • Choking
  • Practical CPR and Assessment demonstrate

Vocational Outcome

After the completion of the course, the participant will gain the following skills and Knowledge:

  • Recognize and assess an emergency situation.
  • Assess the casualty and recognize the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Perform CPR in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
  • Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.
  • Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required.

Pathways

Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include possible job titles such as first aider.

Students completing HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will enable the student to take further courses in first aid. These may include HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting.

Students must complete refresher courses every 12 months according to the Australian Resuscitation Council.
